A soon-to-be James Naismith Basketball Hall-of-Famer was at Santa Barbara High on Friday. Wilkes reaches Hall of Fame, Lakers to retire jersey

Jamaal Wilkes, who starred locally at Santa Barbara High in the late 1960s, will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on September 7th.The announcement was made Monday before the Kentucky-Kansas NCAA Championship game.Joining Wilkes are head coach Don Nelson, sharp-shooter Reggie Miller, and Ralph Sampson.Wilkes finally broke through into the Hall of Fame after being named a finalist in 2010 and 2011.Wilkes is also getting a special distinction from the … [Read more...]

San Marcos’ White makes All-CIF team as senior

San Marcos' Thayer White has been named to the Southern Section's Division 3-AA All-CIF team for his senior season of boys basketball. The All-CIF teams were announced on Monday.White led the Royals to a 15-12 season in which they entered the Division 3-AA playoff as the second-seeded team. The second-seeded San Marcos boys basketball team was shocked by Charter Oak on Friday, losing 48-45 in a CIF Division 3-AA second-round game in Covina.Charter Oak senior forward Kody Brown hit a 7-foot baseline jumper with 45 seconds remaining in the game to give it a 47-45 lead.The Royals finished the regular season with a 14-10 record and were tied for second in the Channel League. Cardinals knocked out after slow start

The Bishop Diego boys basketball team was unable to overcome a 15-point first-quarter deficit at Citrus College against Ribet Academy and lost 79-65.The Cardinals finished the season with a 14-13 overall record after an 8-2 Frontier League finish, which landed them in second place. San Marcos tucked away a 68-54 first-round CIF victory on Wednesday, besting visiting Hawthorne behind a combined 34 points from seniors Thayer White and Cade Ridenour.The result moves the Royals into Friday's Division 3-AA second round and a game at Charter Oak.White was 8-for-10 from the field for 16 points and nine rebounds.
