Preston Schlagel's four goals, three steals and two assists were the leading force for Santa Barbara's boys water polo team on Tuesday, as the Dons handed the Chargers their first Channel League loss of the season in an 11-5 decision.Three of Schlagel's scores came in the third quarter, helping the Dons go up 10-4. Deja vu for Royals as Golizadeh gives them sudden death victory

For the second time this season, the San Marcos boys water polo team defeated Buena in sudden death overtime.  The Royals won 13-12 after Kevyan Golizaden scored just 35 seconds into the sudden death period.In the first match between the two teams, Buena's Kyle Hahn had seven goals and San Marcos' Shane Hauschild had five goals and five drawn ejections.The Royals keyed on Hahn defensively and limited him to just two goals while Haushchild shucked the Buena defense and put four goals in … [Read more...]

Chargers take fifth at Steve Pal Tournament

Dos Pueblos won its final two games and finished fifth at the 32-team Steve Pal Memorial water polo tournament in Orange County on Saturday at Northwood High School.The Chargers beat Northwood and Servite by the same 10-8 score.Against Northwodd, Sjors Van Alphen scored six goals and goalie Phillip Bates stopped 14 shots.In the win over Servite, Bates made 10 blocks and Grant Schroeder and Nick Lum each scored three goals and Blake Parrish added two.Dos Pueblos (15-10) returns to … [Read more...]

Chargers edged out in first game of Pal Tournament

The Dos Pueblos boys water polo team was defeated by the narrowest of margins in its first game at the Pal Tournament in Orange County, losing to Dana Hills 10-9.Sjors Van Alphen led the team with three goals while Grant Schroeder finished with two.Phillip Bates had a fine game in the goal with 11 saves.The loss places the Chargers in the 5th-8th place bracket and they will continue play in the tournament tomorrow.   … [Read more...]

Righetti upends Santa Barbara on late goal

In a battle between CIF ranked teams, Righetti scored with 22 seconds left to beat Santa Barbara 8-7 in a non-league boys water polo game on Thursday.The Warriors are the No. 2-ranked team in CIF Division 4 and Santa Barbara is 9th in Division 1. Evan Robertson scored 3 goals, Nick Johnson added 2 goals and earned 2 ejections, and Skyler Matthews had 3 steals and an assist for Santa Barbara. Cate gets first league win in final home game

Greg Cusack scored three goals and Miles Barney and Zack Allen added two each to lead Cate to a 9-2 win over Nordhoff in the Rams' final home game of the season. The victory was the first in Tri-Valley League play for Cate.
