Dos Pueblos' Sjors Van Alphen has been named the Channel League's MVP for boys water polo, helping lead the Chargers to a league title.Van Alphen, who will be playing for the UCSB Gauchos next season, made the leap from last year's second team to league MVP by providing leadership, scoring, and defense for the Chargers. Santa Barbara Aquatics Club was well represented at the 2011 MPSF water polo championships held at UCLA this past weekend.The club also has a presence at this weekend’s Division I NCAA Championships at UC Berkeley.Danny White (SBAC/Rio Mesa) and Parker Peterson (SBAC/SBHS) are juniors at Pepperdine who both played for the Waves at the MPSF tournament. The pre-coinflips for Saturday's second round of CIF have been decided for boys water polo.If Dos Pueblos were to win on Wednesday, the Chargers would have to travel to face top-seeded Mater Dei.If Santa Barbara advances and so does Servite, then the Dons automatically travel south. Dos Pueblos could get a shot at top-seeded and undefeated Mater Dei if it can beat Dana Hills in a CIF Division 1 first-round water polo playoff game on Wednesday at the Elings Aquatic Center.The playoff pairings were released Sunday, and all three local Channel League teams qualified.San Marcos (17-12) received an at-large berth and will play at San Clemente (16-10) in a wild-card game on Tuesday.
