Scarvelis, Rowan winners at 72nd Easter Relays

Nick Scarvelis reset his Dos Pueblos school record in the discus and also won the shot put while San Marcos' Shane Rowan won the triple jump at Saturday's Easter Relays, representing the only three varsity wins for local schools amongst elite competition in the mega-meet's 72nd year. UCSB’s Smith new record-holder in 10k

STANFORD - Scott Smith became the latest Gaucho to set a school record, breaking the 10,000m record at the Stanford Invitational.Smith's time was 28:35.71, which was good for second place in Section 1 of the men's races. He became the first Gaucho to break the 29 minute barrier in the 10k, as the previous record was a 29:09.85 set by Josh Horton in 2001. Dougherty’s win highlights SBCC’s Easter Relays

Samantha Dougherty captured the 5000 meters on Friday in the 72nd annual Easter Relays Community College meet at La Playa Stadium, Dougherty, one of three winners for SBCC, ran 19:24.86 for the 10th-fastest time in school history.The other winners for the Vaqueros in the 13-team meet were Matt Organista in the 5000m (15:41.40) and Chase Lee in the javelin (164-10 1/4). Campbell topples another record; DP splits with Ventura

Erin Campbell had already broken a 33-year-old Dos Pueblos record in the 800 last week at Buena. On Tuesday she broke another, this time in the mile with a time of five minutes, eight seconds flat. The Charger girls, however, narrowly fell to visiting Ventura 65.5-61.50. On the boys side, DP prevailed 73-54.The one-mile record was previously set all the way back in 1976, when Barbara Serrano finished in 5:12.17. McDaniel takes it up to 5’8″ for Royals

San Marcos' Hannah McDaniel cleared five feet, eight inches in the high jump on Thursday, giving her one of the best leaps in the state so far this season.McDaniel didn't stop there, winning the 400 in 60.2 seconds and taking part in the Royals' victory in the 4x400 relay. Dunlap wins four but Carp falls twice

Shelby Dunlap won the 100, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and high jump on Thursday but Carpinteria's girls track team fell to Nordhoff 72-64. Dunlap shared the high jump win with Caitlin Wallace, as both Warriors cleared 5-2. LOS ANGELES -- The Gaucho track and field team celebrated the end of finals week by posting a number of all-time marks at the USC Trojan Invitational, held at Loker Stadium on the campus of the University of Southern California.The sprinters and hurdlers in particular sent some new faces into the Gaucho record books. McDaniel wins high jump on great day for Royals

Hannah McDaniel won the girls high jump at the Camarillo Invitation on Saturday, clearing 5-6 as one of many highlights on a great day for the San Marcos track team."We kicked some butt," said coach Marilyn Hantgin.McDaniel also took fifth in the 200 with a time of 26.45 seconds and was part of San Marcos' winning 4x400 relay team, which clocked in at four minutes, 12 seconds. SBCC recorded four track victories on Friday, including three in the field events, in a WSC North meet at Ventura College. Campbell brings down 33-year-old DP record

Dos Pueblos track coach Dave Kuderka said it was only a matter of time for Erin Campbell.That time came Thursday as the Chargers' Campbell broke the school record in the 800 meters at Buena, cracking a mark set all the way back in 1977 by Wanda Burke.
