UCSB defeats Long Beach State in Big West opener, second game to be completed Sunday

UC Santa Barbara (14-22, 1-0) won its Big West Conference opener against Long Beach State (12-19, 0-1), 5-4, on Saturday afternoon at Campus Diamond. The Gauchos were trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning during game two when a rainstorm came charging through Santa Barbara. Acosta provides effective relief for SBCC

SBCC got a powerful boost from its battery on Thursday as the Vaqueros overcame a slow start to beat L.A. SBCC had a rough day on Saturday at the Bakersfield Softball Classic, losing to Riverside 9-0 and Bakersfield 18-2. The UC Santa Barbara softball team put up a fight on Saturday as it took on No. 16 UCLA in a single game at Campus Diamond. Wet weather may have dampened portions of this past weekend's Gaucho Classic II, but it certainly did not dampen senior Allison Taylor's play in the tournament. The pitching was nearly perfect on Tuesday as SBCC gave up just three hits in 12 innings of a softball sweep over Cuesta at Pershing Park. The scores were 10-0 and 7-1.
