Camarillo pair go 1-2 in Nite Moves aquathon

In what for many was the last tune-up before this weekend’s Santa Barbara Triathlon, Camarillo’s Jim Avrea and Norbert Hoehne and local Jim Shalhoub were the event winners at Wednesday’s Nite Moves at Leadbetter Beach.Avrea beat out Hoehne by 31 seconds in the swim-run aquathon. Avrea did the 1-k swim and 5-k run in 37 minutes, 12 seconds. Hoehne crossed the finish line in 37:43. Cal Poly runners go 1-2-3 at Nite Moves

Cal Poly's cross country team took over the podium at Wednesday's Nite Moves. Mustang teammates Carl Dargitz, Michael Johnson and Andrew Ray swept the top three spots in the weekly 5k run at Shoreline Park and Leadbetter Beach, with Dargitz leading the way in 15 minutes and 14 seconds.Johnson and Ray finished second and third, respectively. Car Eubank didn't have anything to worry about in his rear-view mirror on Wednesday, blitzing the 5k run at Nite Moves in 15 minutes and 17 seconds.That was 2 minutes and 25 seconds better than second-place finisher J.P. Adrienne Binder turned in her best time of the season in Wednesday's 1k swim at Nite Moves, which was also good for her seventh win of the season in that event.The San Marcos grad and All-American swimmer at Auburn University, Binder broke 13 minutes for the first time. The 25-year-old's time of 12:59 was the second-best of the season overall. San Marcos High School Aquatics coach Brian Roth bettered his swim time by 30 seconds on Wednesday at Nite Moves, posting a winning time of 14 minutes and six seconds in the 1k swim.Michael Chavez, a former UCSB miler, outpaced the competition in the weekly 5k run, finishing a full minute ahead of second-place finisher Sergey Sushchikh.
