SBSC’s Bell, Smith win honors at final Nite Moves event

Fernandez beats impressive pack of runners in 5k

Olympian Mark Warkentin led three swimmers under 12 minutes in the 1k ocean swim at Wednesday’s Nite Moves Series at Leadbetter Beach.Warkentin, who swam in the 10k open-water swim at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, came in first Wednesday in a time of 11 minutes, 38 seconds. Braden records fastest aquathon time of season

Warkentin, Tierney blaze through water in Nite Moves swim

In one of the fastest Nite Moves of the season, U.S. Olympian and Santa Barbara local Mark Warkentin held off Australia’s Heydn Tierney in a blistering 1k ocean swim on Wednesday at Leadbetter Beach.Warkentin, who competed in the open-water swim at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, finished Wednesday’s race in 11 minutes, 55 seconds. Hudson claims Nite Moves aquathon

Santa Barbara triathlon veteran Taj Hudson won the aquathon at Wednesday night’s Nite Moves Series at Leadbetter Beach.Hudson, 40, covered the 1k ocean swim in 15:43 and the 5k run in 23:06 for a total time of 38:49. Bell rings up fastest time in 9th Nite Moves victory

Walker Bell got under 13 minutes for the first time in winning his ninth Nite Moves 1-kilometer swim at Leadbetter Beach on Wednesday night.Taking advantage of smooth water, Bell finished in 12 minutes, 33 seconds, his fastest time ever. Walker Bell and his teammates from the Santa Barbara Swim Club were all over the place in Nite Moves No. 9 on Wednesday at Leadbetter Beach.Walker, who recently celebrated his 14th birthday, won his eighth 1k swim in a time of 13 minutes, 56 seconds. With two elite triathletes pushing him, 13-year-old Walker Bell won his seventh Nite Moves 1k swim and posted his fastest time of the season on Wednesday night at Leadbetter Beach.Bell was timed in 13 minutes, 16 seconds in finishing ahead of Zack Paris, 22, (13:37) and Chris Braden, 20,(13:40).
