Schaeffer wins State Scholar award

Erika Schaeffer, a standout runner on the SBCC cross country and track teams, has been named to the 2011 California Scholar Athlete Honor Roll. Schaeffer had a 3.96 GPA and was one of 11 women to receive the highest student-athlete honor from the California Community College Athletic Association. She finished 13th in the 2010 State Cross Country Championships and was the Southern Cal steeplechase champion in the 2011 track and field season. Zerrenner takes 10th in State

Walsh clocks Cate’s best time at XC finals

Senior captain Adrian Walsh was Cate's top finisher at Saturday's CIF Division V Finals, while the Rams as a group finished 14th.Walsh recorded the seventh-fastest time in Cate's program history on the Mt. Dos Pueblos runners Bryan Fernandez and Addi Zerrenner both finished 11th in their respective Division 2 races, and the Charger boys placed 12th in the team competition at the CIF cross country championships on Saturday at Mt. Gaucho men place 10th at West Regionals

STANFORD - The UCSB men's and women's cross country teams both competed in the highly anticipated NCAA Division 1 West Regional's on Saturday at Stanford University. The Gaucho men finished tenth out of twenty-five teams while the women finished nineteenth out of thirty-one teams.Senior Anthony Masci and sophomore Jeremy Acosta finished the 10K race consecutively in 31st and 32nd with the same time, both finishing the race in a time of 30:13. Both Westmont teams headed to cross country Nationals

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the field for the National Cross Country Championships and both Westmont men's and women's teams will compete in the event as at-large teams. The women's team is ranked at number 12 in the country while the men's team is ranked number 18.The championship races will take place on Saturday, November 19 at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Washington. Westmont men's and women's cross country teams each finished third at the 2011 Golden State Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday. The races were held at Woodward Park in Fresno.On the women's side, the Warriors tallied 87 points, 13 points behind Biola who claimed second place. Azusa Pacific claimed the GSAC Championships, tallying just 20 points. Omar Padilla ran a season-best 21:21 for 47th place on Wednesday and Ben Garland took 50th in 21:23, leading the SBCC men to 14th place in the Southern Cal Cross Country Championships at Rancho Cucamonga.The Vaqueros earned the 14th and final qualifying berth (out of 28 schools) to the State Championships.
