Cate lacrosse receives first-round bye for CIF playoffs
Cate girls lacrosse earned the second seed in the Northern Division CIF playoffs, recieving a bye in Tuesday's first round. The Rams will open their playoff run on Thursday at home against the winner of Mira Costa and Peninsula.The Rams would also be home for Saturdays semi-final round if they should win on Thursday. Cate and Thacher met for a key Condor League game on Saturday, with the Rams prevailing 15-13 on the Mesa.Cate scored the game's final four goals, having trailed 13-11 with 12 minutes remaining, to capture at least a share of the league title.Alexis Hill's six goals and eight draw controls were invaluable to Cate's effort. A late three-goal lead almost dried up for Cate's lacrosse team on Wednesday, but the Rams were able to hold on for a 16-15 non-league win over Agoura.Deadlocked 7-7 at the break, Cate was able to put Agoura in a 16-13 hole with under four minutes to go in the game.Before it was over, the Chargers made a last-gasp effort and shrank Cate's lead to 16-15 with 2:13 remaining.
