Vaqueros lower scores at South Coast Classic

Five improved their scores for SBCC on Monday and the women’s golf team took fifth place in the South Coast Classic at Olivas Links in Ventura.The Vaqueros shaved 22 shots off their first-round score with a 333. That was 13 strokes behind tourney winner Saddleback. SBCC finished at 688 while Saddleback’s 36-hole total was 633.Freshman Nicole Bullemer fired a 3-over 75 to lead the Vaqueros. SBCC stands in 6th in season-opening tourney

SBCC opened the women’s golf season on Sunday by shooting 355 in the South Coast Classic at Buenaventura GC in Ventura.The Vaqueros are in sixth place in the eight-team event after one round. Gama among All-American Wildcats

Bishop Diego graduate Brandon Sylvester Gama was one of three Chico State golfers recognized as NCAA Division-II All-Americans recently.Gama, Kyle Souza and Lucas Delgado were the linchpins in a Wildcat team that held a top-five national ranking throughout the season and placed third at the NCAA Championships.Gama and Delgado gained honorable mentions while Souza, a sophomore, was placed on the second team.Gama averaged 73.6 strokes per round during his senior season, which included winning … [Read more...]

Jesse Ferris and Andy Clayton each shot 4-over 148 for 36 holes on Monday and SBCC finished sixth in the Community College State Golf Championships at Oak Valley GC in Beaumont. Albert Corral and Cameron Tennant shared the first-round lead with 3-under-par 69s on Monday and SBCC led wire-to-wire en route to capturing the Southern Cal Regional men's golf title at the SCGA Mermbers' Club in Murrieta.Corral, a sophomore from San Marcos High, took fifth at 1-under 143 while Tennant (69-77) and Jesse Ferris (72-74) tied for ninth at 146. Gaucho golfers take fourth in Big West

With the top two WSC men's golf teams already assured of a regional playoff berth, there was one spot remaining on Monday in the 36-hole WSC Championships and SBCC grabbed it.Ventura took first in conference Meets No. 9 and 10 with a 757 at par-71 Spanish Hills GC in Camarillo. Jesse Ferris fired a 2-under 69 on Wednesday at Marshall Canyon GC in La Verne and SBCC took third in a tightly bunched men's golf field at WSC No. 8.Ferris tied for first with Alex Macaluso and Chris Baingo, both of Canyons.?Canyons won the meet with a season-best score of 5-under 350.
