Bishop Diego was in peak form Friday night in its CIF East Valley Division playoff opener.The Cardinals clicked on both sides of the ball in romping to a 35-0 win over Brentwood in a first-round game at La Playa Stadium.The defense forced seven turnovers and held the Eagles to a mere 132 yards in total offense.When Bishop had the ball, it overpowered Brentwood with a punishing ground game. Arroyo Grande pushed past Dos Pueblos on Friday night in the first round of CIF's Western Division, posting a 41-6 decision behind the play of quarterback Brent Vanderveen.The Eagles outgained the Chargers 369 to 157 on offense. Vanderveen threw a pair of touchdown passes and rushed for another. Manny Hernandez, a sophomore linebacker for SBCC, has been chosen first-team All-American Pacific Conference in football.Three other Vaqueros made the elite squad. Sophomore tackle Kenny Ruiz and freshman tight end Tyson Heller were second-team offensive picks. Heller caught 21 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown.
