US Cup No. 5 Santa Ynez Classic 4/30/12 The US Cup headed to the Santa Ynez Valley for stop number five on the seven race series. The weather was perfect in the high 80's, which became quite warm on the later part of the race. The course consisted of a 11 mile lap with about 1600' of climbing per lap. The Santa Barbara-based Team Kalyra Women's Cycling pedaled into Annapolis, Maryland early Sunday morning, marking the end of the 3,000-mile Race Across America that the four women began a week earlier in Oceanside, California.Jill Gass, Avalon Jenkins-Balker, Lisa Tonello, and Sonia Ross finished first in the 50-59 age group. U.S. Cup Series’ SB stop a favorite for local riders
This round of the US Cup Series was held at a favorite venue for many mountain bikers—including me. The course offers all the fun a cross country coarse could deliver; intense climbs, technical descents, meandering turns (very ‘cross-esque).
