Gauchos draw No. 1 seed Baylor in NCAA Tournament

UCSB drew top-seeded and undefeated Baylor in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament on Monday.The Gauchos (17-15) and Bears (34-0) will play on Sunday in Bowling Green, Ohio in the Des Moines Region. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.Baylor is led by national player of the year candidate, 6-8 Brittney Griner. Basketball wasn’t the only thing JP Dodson took to the next level after graduating from San Marcos High. He also raised his game in academics.Dodson was honored as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Santa Barbara City College on Monday at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.The 6-1 sophomore led the Vaqueros in scoring while carrying an impressive 3.71 GPA majoring in physics. The 2012 Big West Tournament champion UCSB women's basketball team will host a viewing party on Monday afternoon in the Reitnouer Auditorium in the Intercollegiate Athletics building on campus.The viewing party, to coincide with the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, is open to the public and the media.
