Dons earn Channel League split with Dos Pueblos

The Dons won this one between the two teams, with Dos Pueblos winning the first two meetings between the teams this season.

Ivette Gil's stepped up in a big game for Santa Barbara High on Monday. Gil's 22 points, nine rebounds, and four steals were a large part of the Dons' 56-47 Channel League victory over visiting Dos Pueblos.Gil made eight of her 14 shot attempts in the game."It was probably her best game of the year if you look at all she did," said Dons head coach Andrew Butcher.As a team, the Dons converted 19 of 22 free throws. Buena bumps Royals in regular season close out

San Marcos wrapped up its regular season on Monday in a 79-10 blowout loss to Buena.The Royals still have a chance for an at-large postseason berth and will learn of their draw next Sunday.It was Senior Night at Maury Halleck Gymnasium and the first seven Royals receiving playing time on Monday were seniors. San Marcos garnered both Athlete of the Week honors on Monday.Basketball player Cade Ridenour was voted the male award winner and Emily Allen of the soccer team earned the female award. FULLERTON  - Kwame Vaughn scored a career-high 37 points and Cal State Fullerton made school record 17 three-pointers en route to a 99-86 win over visiting UCSB on Saturday night.The 17 three-pointers tied a Gaucho opponent record.Vaughn helped the Titans (15-7 overall, 7-3 in the Big West) overcome a 12-point first half deficit. Shull helps Cardinals close out Flashes

Bishop Diego captured a 47-38 Tri-Valley League victory over Fillmore on Saturday behind a 19-point performance from Greer Shull that included a late 3-point play that help the Cardinals hold off the Flashes.Bishop Diego led in the third quarter by 14 but allowed Fillmore to briefly take a one-point lead in the fourth quarter. JT Aubrey's 3-pointer with 17 seconds to go in Saturday's Condor League game against Midland lifted Laguna Blanca past the Oaks in a 68-66 decision.The Owls hadn't led since the first quarter but used a healthy dose of 3-point shooting to finally regain the lead in the final seconds. Cal Poly completes season sweep of UCSB

Another tough first half caused the UCSB women's basketball team to try and dig out of a hole and though the Gauchos hung tough with Cal Poly throughout the second half, the first-half deficit was too much as UCSB lost its fourth in a row.The Mustangs used a 15-point lead at the break to win by that same margin, 67-52, on Saturday afternoon at the Thunderdome.
