The UCSB baseball team will be hosting an "Open House" Sunday at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium as part of its Baseball Alumni Reunion Weekend.The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be an intrasquad game between the 2012 Gauchos and it will give fans a chance to interact with players and the new coaching staff, led by new head coach Andrew Checketts.During Sunday's Open House, fans will be able to see the renovations that have been made to Caesar Uyesaka Stadium, including a … [Read more...]

For the second straight season, two former UCSB baseball players will be playing against each other in the World Series.Last year All-Star Michael Young (UCSB, 1995-97) led the Texas Rangers to the Fall Classic against the San Francisco Giants, who had Barry Zito (1997) on their side.This season Young is again representing both UCSB and the Rangers while Skip Schumaker (2000-01) will be representing UCSB and the St. Louis Cardinals. UCSB baseball coach Andrew Checketts has added Jason Hawkins, the former head coach at Occidental College, to the his coaching staff, the team announced on Monday.Hawkins rounds out the full-time Gaucho coaching staff as he joins the UCSB staff after three successful seasons heading the Occidental squad. New UCSB baseball coach Andrew Checketts went back to his roots to find an assistant coach.Checketts has hired Eddie Cornejo from UC Riverside and Riverside Community College to join his staff in Santa Barbara. Andrew Checketts, who has spent the past three seasons as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Oregon, was named UCSB's new head baseball coach.Checketts was introduced by UCSB Director of Athletics Mark W.
