MORAGA - Eric Oliver had two home runs and eight RBI and Robby Cummingsalso homered twice as part of his five RBI day as No. 23 UCSB throttled St. Mary's 25-11 at Louis Guisto Field on Sunday. MORAGA - No. 23 UCSB beat St. Mary's twice on Saturday at Louis Guisto Field, sweeping the doubleheader of a four-game weekend series. UCSB (11-4) scored 16 runs on the day to end a two-game drought and take a 2-1 series lead against the Gaels (10-6).Junior Joe Gardner (2-0) started the day off by allowing only one run in eight innings. LONG BEACH - The Long Beach St. 49er's were simply too much for the Gauchos to handle yesterday and the result was a 6-1 defeat. The loss ends the UCSB women's tennis win streak at five as Long Beach posted their eight straight victory.The Gauchos did make some noise early. Sophomore Mario Hollands struggled a week after his one-hit shutout of Loyola Marymount, and the No. 23 UCSB (9-4) offense could not make up for it in a 7-4 loss to St. Mary's (10-4) on Friday at Louis Guisto Field.Hollands' follow up to his 10 strikeout performance in a 1-0 win over LMU last week, which netted him three player of the week awards, was not nearly as impressive. Barbara Nwaba and David Hoff are the top competitors for the Gauchos after day one of the Sam Adams Combined Events. The two-day decathlon/heptathlon competition concludes tomorrow, and Nwaba and Hoff are both in contention to win their respective events.Nwaba currently has 3035 points, which is on pace to break the UCSB record and leaves her in a position to challenge the 5000-point barrier. ANAHEIM - Lauren Pedersen scored 23 points to lead top-seed UCSB over No. 6 Cal State Fullerton, 60-52, in a Big West Tournament semifinal game, Friday, at the Anaheim Convention Center.
