DAVIS – In a battle between a pair of Big West Conference leaders on Saturday, UC Davis came out on top with two narrow victories over visiting UCSB at La Rue Field. Gaucho win on the first day of Big West Tournament
The Gauchos kicked off the Big West Conference Tournament on a beautiful afternoon in Davis, California. UCSB clinched a win against Pacific this evening at UC Davis Schaal Aquatics Center, 9-5.The Gauchos took control in the first quarter, when they scored three unanswered goals by Pacific. Fifth seeded UCSB ousts No. 4 Cal Poly in Big West Tourney

Andrew Vasquez named to National Pitcher of the Year list
UC Santa Barbara freshman pitcher Andrew Vasquez has been sparkling in his first season as a Gaucho and now he finds himself in elite company.The 6-foot-6 left-hander was named to the National Pitcher of the Year Watch List by the College Baseball Hall of Fame. UCSB finishes sixth in final tune-up before Big West championship
Russell Boring shot a 4-over par 217 to finish tied for 10th as the UC Santa Barbara golf team finished sixth at the Anteater Invitational in Irvine, Calif., on Tuesday.Boring actually led the tournament after one round, carding a 3-under par 68. Vertigan awarded conference Player of Week
UCSB junior centerfielder Brett Vertigan has been named the Big West Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.Vertigan went 9-for-16 with eight runs scored as UCSB went 4-0 against USC and Pacific this past week.
