On yet another beautiful Saturday at Campus Pool, the UCSB swimming and diving teams closed out their 2011-12 dual meet schedule with a pair of wins over visiting Cal Poly.The men posted a 163-124 victory and improved their record to 6-0, marking the first undefeated dual season in program history. Cal Poly completes season sweep of UCSB
Another tough first half caused the UCSB women's basketball team to try and dig out of a hole and though the Gauchos hung tough with Cal Poly throughout the second half, the first-half deficit was too much as UCSB lost its fourth in a row.The Mustangs used a 15-point lead at the break to win by that same margin, 67-52, on Saturday afternoon at the Thunderdome. UCSB remained winless in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation on Wednesday night, falling to the USC Trojans by game scores of 25-16, 25-14, 25-21.Having lost four straight matches, UCSB now sits at 2-6, with a 0-4 record in conference play. Jaimé Serna, who led UCSB to road wins at UC Davis and Pacific over the weekend, has been named Big West Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.Serna had two of the best games of his four-year Gaucho career in the victories.In Thursday night’s 86-59 win over UC Davis, the senior from Laguna Beach, had 18 points, five rebounds, one assist and a blocked shot.
