Vaughn erupts for 37 at UCSB’s expense

FULLERTON  - Kwame Vaughn scored a career-high 37 points and Cal State Fullerton made school record 17 three-pointers en route to a 99-86 win over visiting UCSB on Saturday night.The 17 three-pointers tied a Gaucho opponent record.Vaughn helped the Titans (15-7 overall, 7-3 in the Big West) overcome a 12-point first half deficit. Gaucho seniors leave Campus Pool on high note

On yet another beautiful Saturday at Campus Pool, the UCSB swimming and diving teams closed out their 2011-12 dual meet schedule with a pair of wins over visiting Cal Poly.The men posted a 163-124 victory and improved their record to 6-0, marking the first undefeated dual season in program history. The women, meanwhile, won their fourth straight dual by way of a 169-129 score and finish the year with a 6-3 record. Cal Poly completes season sweep of UCSB

Another tough first half caused the UCSB women's basketball team to try and dig out of a hole and though the Gauchos hung tough with Cal Poly throughout the second half, the first-half deficit was too much as UCSB lost its fourth in a row.The Mustangs used a 15-point lead at the break to win by that same margin, 67-52, on Saturday afternoon at the Thunderdome. UCSB upsets Pepperdine for first MPSF win

Dylan Davis was a force at the net with seven blocks, leading the UCSB men's volleyball team to an upset over No. 8 Pepperdine on Friday night at the Firestone Fieldhouse. Johnson, Williams lead UCSB past Northridge, 85-70

Orlando Johnson scored 25 points and Alan Williams had a career-high 19 to pace UC Santa Barbara to an 85-70 Big West Conference win at Cal State Northridge on Thursday night.The Gauchos (12-7 overall, 7-2 in the Big West) trailed the Matadors (6-14 overall, 2-7 in the Big West) 9-2 in the opening minutes before Johnson and Williams combined for all 15 points during a 15-4 run that gave them a 17-13 lead. UCSB remained winless in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation on Wednesday night, falling to the USC Trojans by game scores of 25-16, 25-14, 25-21.Having lost four straight matches, UCSB now sits at 2-6, with a 0-4 record in conference play. Shooting woes plague Gauchos in loss to USC

LOS ANGELES – A tough shooting night doomed the UCSB women's basketball team on Tuesday as the Gauchos, again, played terrific defense but could not get many shots to fall.UCSB shot just 25.4 percent on the evening and fell to USC, 50-39 at the Galen Center. BracketBuster matchups set, Gauchos travel to Utah State

Jaimé Serna, who led UCSB to road wins at UC Davis and Pacific over the weekend, has been named Big West Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.Serna had two of the best games of his four-year Gaucho career in the victories.In Thursday night’s 86-59 win over UC Davis, the senior from Laguna Beach, had 18 points, five rebounds, one assist and a blocked shot. It was another beautiful day in Santa Barbara as the UCSB Winter Invite began at 8 am Saturday morning at Campus Pool. No. 17 UC Santa Barbara (5-3) set the standard for tournament play as it won both of its matches.
