SBVC teams in Open Division at Junior Nationals

Two teams from the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club - 18-Smack and 15-Smack - have received at-large bids for the Open Division of the Junior Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.“I think the coaching staff knew early on that we were an Open level team," said 18-Smack coach Jason Donnelly. SBVC’s 14-Smack, 13-Smack move up divisions

SBVC'S WEEKLY REPORT: On Saturday in Anaheim, The 14-Smack team had an outstanding day in Division 3 on a comeback mission to move back up to Division 2. Having a significant lead in most of the sets, the team managed to stay focused and outplay their opponent.The team beat Impact 14-Craig, LAVA-South 14-Casey, and Sports Shack 14-1 to take first in pool play. Competing in Division I, Santa Barbara Volley Club's 18-Smack team won its pool to go on and compete in the first two playoff rounds this weekend in Anaheim. The 18-Blue team, 16-Smack and 16-Blue team also competed in the tournament.The 18-Smack team beat Surf City 18-Craig, Rancho Valley 18-Premier,and Bakersfield Jamba 18-Tom to win the pool.The team also took down Sports Shack 18-Asics (25-11, 25-17) and Long Beach 18-Rockstar (26-24) in the first two playoff rounds before a one set … [Read more...]

Busy weekend for SBVC in Anaheim

SBVC girls hit the big time in Reno, Phoenix

The Santa Barbara Volleyball Club 13-Smack and 14-Smack teams both took second at the Volleyball Festival in Phoenix last week.The 18-Smack and 16-Smack teams both qualified for the Open division of the Junior Nationals, which is the highest division possible and they competed among the top 32 teams across the nation. Injury-riddled SBVC 16-Smack presses forward

The Santa Barbara Volleyball Club's 16-Smack team was missing four players due to injury or illness and had just one sub at the Regionals in Anaheim, but it managed to pick up some wins in preparation for Junior Nationals.The team won its first match again Golden West thanks to some nice setting in the 5-1 offense by Hannah Porter. Finishing in 5th place of the Silver Division, the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club's 13-Smack team ended their regular season on a high note at the Regionals tournament in Artesia last weekend.On day one, the team had a slow start in the first match of the morning pool play. Currently ranked seventh in the Southern California Volleyball Association, the 18-Smack competed in the Gold bracket among the top 32 teams in SoCal. The team went 5-1 in pool play Saturday and Sunday and later went on to win the tournament. SBVC squads ride rocky road on final Anaheim weekend
