SBVC 15s enjoy a terrific start to the season

Three Santa Barbara Volleyball Club 15s teams opened their seasons in impressive fashion, with two of them earning byes in the second qualifying round in the Gold Bracket and the other going unbeaten in the Silver Bracket.The 15-Smack team steam rolled through its Gold bracket pool on the first round of the qualifying matches at El Camino College. Season begins for SB Volleyball Club teams

The Smack and Blue teams from the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club have begun their quest to reach the U.S. Volleyball Junior Nationals.The 18-Smack team, which won the gold medal at the Junior Olympics last summer in Atlanta, started its new season on a high note, advancing to the Gold Bracket final qualifying round at a Southern California Volleyball Association Tournament at Rolling Hills Prep.The team, which returns almost all of its players from the Junior Olympics squad, won its three … [Read more...]

Teens collecting sports equipment, clothing for 3rd Sports Drive

Pitching carries SY Heat to title in wood bat tournament

The Santa Ynez Heat won the inaugural Maple Bat Tournament.

Conner Coffin edged in semifinals at Bali World Pro Junior

In an all-American semifinal, Santa Barbara's Conner Coffin lost a closely fought battle with Andrew Doheny of Newport Beach at the Oakley  ASP World Pro Junior Championship in  Bali on Monday.The heat started slow, but finished with a bang. Both surfers had similar scores and it came down to the last exchange. Carly Wopat named Pac-12 Offensive Player of Week

Former Dos Pueblos High star and Stanford sophomore Carly Wopat has been selected as the Pac-12 women’s volleyball Bank of the West Offensive Players of the Week for Sept. 26 – Oct. 2, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.Wopat led Stanford to wins over Arizona State and Arizona last weekend. The middle blocker hit .502 in the two matches, registering 3.71 kills per set and 2.00 blocks per set. Darville riding for U.S. at Road World Championships

San Marcos High senior Alex Darville will be competing for Team USA at the UCI  Road World Championships held in Copenhagen, Denmark.Darville was named to the Junior Men’s team and will be racing on Saturday  in a 126-kilometer road race.
