In a girls volleyball season opener between two local teams, San Marcos took control early and swept Carpinteria, 25-7, 25-9, 25-12, Thursday night on Jon Lee Court at Maury Halleck Gym.The Royals sprinted out to a 14-3 scoring spree in the first game. Sunday's California Beach Volleyball Association 50+ Masters tournament at East Beach brought back old memories and reignited rivalries from the prime playing days of former high-level players. The tournament was brought back to the CBVA schedule for the first time in many years by the request of tournament director Eric Arneson. Anxious fans swarmed center court Sunday afternoon for the conclusion to the Bud Light Premier Tour Men and Women’s Open at East Beach.
