Energized Rietz, Newcomb takes SBCC to victory

Chris Newcomb collected 21 kills Friday night and Tyson Rietz added 18, leading SBCC to a 3-1 men's volleyball victory over Palomar at the Sports Pavilion. The scores were 30-26, 30-26, 17-30, 30-27."The main thing with volleyball is energy on the court," said Rietz. Perez, Wilson take Vaqueros to second title

Andrew Perez and Steve Wilson shot even-par 72s on a rainy Friday, leading SBCC to its second straight men's golf title in the Rio Hondo Invitational at California CC in the City of Industry. The Vaqueros topped the 23-team field with 374 strokes, two better than Palomar and Santiago Canyon.Wilson was 4-under par after four holes and had two eagles in his round. SBCC Golf Classic approaching fast, set for March 16

Sign-ups are being accepted for the 16th annual SBCC Golf Classic, which will take place on Monday, March 16 at La Cumbre Country Club. The four-person scramble gets underway with registration at 10 a.m. and a shotgun start at 11:15 a.m. The entry fee is $900 per foursome or $940 after March 3. Aaron Bauman continued his torrid hitting and Greg Pellici saved his fourth straight game Thursday night as SBCC beat Compton 5-3 for its sixth straight baseball win.The Vaqueros (8-1) belted three homers in a rare night game, including a two-run shot by Bauman in the first inning. Strong practices usually lead to sharp play but that wasn't the case for the SBCC men's volleyball team, which dropped a 30-28, 30-22, 30-23 decision to Orange Coast on Wednesday night.Tyson Rietz led the Vaqueros (2-2) with 16 kills while Chris Newcomb had 11 and Mark Hebda added seven. Neither cold nor rain nor five days off could stop the hot bat of Aaron Bauman on Sunday as SBCC swept a baseball doubleheader at Saddleback in Mission Viejo.
