BBK: Warriors beat CI with buzzer beater

The game wasn’t decided until there were 7.3 seconds left on the clock and a one-point deficit separating the Carpinteria boys basketball team and opposing Channel Islands team. Rayshaun Moore got the ball across the top of the key where he found Jax Montgomery, who knocked down a 3-pointer just as the clock struck zero, thus closing out the Fillmore Tournament opener 52-50.

Moore and Montgomery were seemingly on the same page the entire game, as they combined to drop a collective 32 points at 16 apiece. Brandon Jordan tacked on eight points of his own.

The Warriors got off to a rocky start early on, but were able to go on a pivotal run that facilitated a ten point victory midway through the second quarter.

“The second half was an up and down game with lots of lead changes and tense moments,” said coach Johnny Ward. “We received strong play from Brandon Jordan in his first game of the season since returning from injury. His size, shooting, and athleticism cause a lot of problems for CI. Rayshaun Moore continued his dominant play from the point guard and led our team to the win”

Carpinteria maintains its undefeated 4-0 record and will now advance to the semi-finals where they will face a tough Santa Ynez forefront.
