With a dominant offensive performance from Bryan Sheets, the Providence boys basketball trumped Laguna Blanca in a 71-58 decision on Thursday.

Bryan Sheets and Gianni Madrigal combined to put up a collective 53 points, dropping 29 and 14 respectively.

Chase Avery finished with a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Laguna Blanca’s Pierce O’Donnell led all scorers with 32 points.

The Patriots took a big lead, including 14-0 at the start of the game, but Laguna Blanca made a strong push in the second quarter to get back in the game and even take a lead.

“I was really proud of the way our guys responded in the 2nd half after a big quarter by Laguna,” said coach Steve Stokes. “Went from up 15, to being up only 1 at the break. Our guys re grouped and came back in the second half poised and played with a purpose.”

Providence improved to 2-0 on the season and is set to play Thacher in a road matchup on Saturday.
