BBK: Patriots hold strong in opener

Defense was the difference for Providence in Tuesday’s season opener as the Patriots topped Valley Christian 43-37.

The Patriots limited VCA to 23 percent shooting in the game. Caleb Jones drew praise from his head coach Steve Stokes for his individual defensive assignment on VCA’s leading scorer from last season.

On offense, the Patriots featured a balanced attack. Bryan Sheets tallied a team-high 11 points while Jones added 10. Gianni Madrigal also had 10 points to go with eight rebounds. Chase Avery’s nine rebounds led the team.

Providence (1-0) takes on Laguna Blanca on Thursday in Hope Ranch at 5 p.m.
