All-CIF Volleyball: Laguna’s Madsen named Player of Year

The drive, determination and passion of senior Phoebe Madsen gave Laguna Blanca that extra boost to win a CIF girls volleyball championship.

Madsen was honored by the CIF-Southern Section as the Player of the Year in Division 4AA. She did it all for the Owls: set, dig balls, block and put balls away. In the 4AA final against Alta Loma, she recorded a triple-double with 17 kills, 23 assists and 13 digs, leading Laguna Blanca to its second CIF title in school history.

ALL-CIF TEAMS

Jason Donnelly, who returned to the school this season to take the jobs of athletic director and girls volleyball coach, was named the 4AA Division Coach of the Year.

Senior middle blocker Dani Abrams and senior outside hitter Emily Lafitte were selected to the All-CIF Division 4AA team.

Chloe Allen of San Marcos earned All-CIF honors in Division 1A. The UCSB-bound outside hitter led the Royals to a share of the Channel League title and the 1A quarterfinals. Allen pounded 326 kills and picked up 223 digs.

Outsider hitters Peyton Shelburne and Delaney Mayfield from Cate were named to the Division 4A All-CIF team. The pair led the Rams to the semifinals. They won the 4A title last year.
