SWM: Gauchos fare second-best at A3 Performance Invitational

After solid performances across three days of competition the UC Santa Barbara men’s and women’s swimming teams each sealed a second-place finish at A3 Performance Invitational. The women finished with 914.5 points and the men finished with 1093 points.

Cheyenne Low (2:03.14) kicked off the evening finals session with an eighth place finish in the women’s 200 backstroke.

Reid Whaley (12:29.08) collected an 11th place finish in the women’s 1650 freestyle.

The women’s 100 freestyle championship heat featured performances from Julia Mikota (51.11) in third, Lauren Vosseler (51.20) in fifth, and Kimmie Kreuzberger (51.66) in eighth.

Freshman Mason Tittle (45.32) won the consolation heat of the men’s 100 freestyle. Mikey Forbes (45.82) took 13th, Clayton Young (45.96) took 14th, and Kevin Moore (45.98) took 15th in the event.

The men’s 1650 featured a third place finish by freshman Bobby Guerra (15:28.97). Nick DeVito (15:47.17) took eighth and Logan Hotchkiss (15:51.82) took tenth.

Katie Records (2:16.27) won the consolation heat of the women’s 200 breaststroke. Alyssa Shew (2:17.15) followed in tenth.

Simon Wong (2:01.51) sealed a third place finish in the men’s heat of the 200 breaststroke.

In the final individual event of the meet, Chris Nolan (1:48.45) took sixth and Andy Lau (1:49.11) took seventh in the men’s 200 butterfly.

The meet finished with outstanding performances from both the men and the women’s teams in the 400 freestyle relay. The women’s “A” relay consisting of Kimmie Kreuzberger (51.08), Cheyenne Low (50.42), Lauren Vosseler (49.34), and Julia Mikota (50.40) took second.

The men’s “A” relay consisting of Mikey Forbes (45.81), Clayton Young (45.01), Mason Tittle (44.16), and Eddie Sanchez (44.86) took second, edging out UCSD’s “A” relay by a tenth of a second.

The Gauchos will be back in the pool for the Texas Invitational on December 3-5.
