San Marcos Royals announce college commitments

San Marcos had an all-star lineup of student-athletes gathered in the school library on Wednesday to celebrate the seven who have made college commitments for athletics.

Many are staying close to home. UC Santa Barbara is getting Chloe Allen for volleyball, Kate Coski and Hailey Gellert for water polo, and Tasha Wood for soccer.

Basketball star Scott Everman chose UC San Diego, three-time all-league soccer player Olivia Jones is headed to UC Davis, and water polo player Arija Walsh is going to be a Michigan Wolverine.

Girls water polo coach Chuckie Roth was there in support of his three players.

“It’s fun to be here because today is what it’s all about, is continuing to excel academically and athletically at the next level and passing it forward to the next generation,” Roth said.

With the exception of Allen, who won a CIF playoff match the night before, all of the athletes still have their final high school seasons coming this winter. While Wednesday was National Signing Day for volleyball, basketball, water polo, the commitments from Wood and Jones are verbal as they can’t sign until February.
