Cate School and Carpinteria High hosted a CIF Regional Individual Tournament on Monday. Several local players won early-round matches but none succeeded in advancing to the Round of 32 to be played at the Whittier Narrows Tennis Center.

Thousand Oaks’ Mahli Silpachal ended the season of San Marcos’ Yuka Perera in the third round 6-2, 6-2; Perera had a bye to start, then beat Rio Mesa’s Dominique Dersey, the Pacific View League singles champion, 6-2, 6-1.

Santa Barbara High senior Cade Sorensen also had a first-round bye before winning her second-round match. Sorensen captured a tight 7-6, 6-4 decision from Campbell Hall’s Theresa Papikian but fell to Sherman Oak’s Avery Aude in the next round.

Aude was on fire on Monday, ousting Cate’s Julia Gan in the first round before knocking out Calabasas’ Rachel Wagner and Sorensen in succession.

Cate’s top doubles team of Summer Christensen and McKenna Madden won two matches – including one over Bishop Diego’s top doubles team of senior Adrianna Borgatello and sophomore Ellee Braniff – before falling in the third round to Campbell Hall’s Jay Kim and Dominique Stone 6-0, 6-0. Cate’s No. 2 singles player Jackie Cai advanced to the second round where she was stopped.
