WSoc: Goal-hungry Vaqueros come up empty again

SBCC failed to find the net again on Friday afternoon and came away with a 0-0 women’s soccer tie vs. Cuesta in San Luis Obispo.

The Vaqueros (5-3-4, 0-1-3) haven’t scored in their first four WSC North games and three of those have been 0-0 ties. Cuesta is 4-5-3 and 0-3-1.

“We had a number of clear-cut chances in both halves but just couldn’t find the back of the net,” said eighth-year head coach John Sisterson. “It was a frustrating game as I’m sure if one had gone in, there would have been more.

“We create chances but just can’t finish them and that’s going to cost us dearly if we don’t improve in that aspect of the game.”

Santa Barbara won the shot battle 16-6 and had eight shots on-goal compared to five for the Cougars.

Sisterson praised the play of sophomore defender Athena Nava and goalie Kasey Jensen, who played the second half and made a strong save to keep Cuesta off the scoreboard.

The Vaqueros will play five of the next six at home, starting Tuesday against Ventura at 7:30 p.m.
