SB Vipers squad finishes 2nd at Fall Showdown

The Santa Barbara Vipers basketball club’s high school team finished as runners-up at the Fall Showdown Tournament, hosted by the Conejo Quakes in Moorpark.

The team, called the Dead Presidents, lost to the Ventura Heat in the championship game.

Santa Barbara defeated the NC Warriors out of Templeton in their first game of the tournament and then fell to the Ventura Heat in the next round by four points.

On Sunday, the team rolled past the VC Crush by 21 points and knocked off the NC Wildcats in the first playoff game. Cyrus Wallace’s last-second basket sealed the win.

The Dead Presidents got a rematch with the Heat in the final but came up short, losing by six points.

The team is made up of sophomore players who attend San Marcos and Dos Pueblos. Team members are Brian Nnoli (SM), David Frohling (SM), Davis Kim (SM), Ryan Godges (SM), Connor Dickens (DP), Max McCeney (DP), Cyrus Wallace (DP) and Josh McGregor (DP). The coach is Juan Villarruel.
