GTen: Royals sink No. 4 team in D2

San Marcos’ 14-4 win over Arroyo Grande on Monday was marked by a quality singles win from Yuka Perera and a near miss for the undefeated doubles team of Renee Handley and Sarah Yang.

Perera swept three sets including a 6-4 win over Delanie Dunkie, another top player from the freshman class.

“What a great win by Yuka she is playing some of her best tennis of the year,” said Royals head coach Fred Hartzman.

Julia Frohling and Carley McDaniel “definitely played their best match of the year,” according to Hartzman. The pair lost only two games in three sets. Handley and Yang swept three sets but had to fight off two set points in the third round to remain undefeated on the season.

Arroyo Grande is the No. 4-ranked team in CIF Division 2.

San Marcos is 15-1 on the season and has its last match of the regular season on Wednesday at Santa Ynez.
