Yokubaitis resigns as Bishop baseball coach

Dan Yokubaitis has stepped down as baseball coach at Bishop Diego, Athletic Director Dan Peeters announced Sunday.

Yokubaitis will remain at the school as Director of the Multimedia Center.

Peeters said Yokubaitis’ expanded role with the multimedia center made it difficult for him to continue coaching.

“Dan is a tremendous coach, teacher and mentor; he will be sorely missed in the Athletic Department,” Peeters said in a statement. “Five years ago, I implored him to take the program over and I am very grateful for his contributions.”

Yokubaitis was in his second stint as baseball coach. He accepted the position in 2011, taking over a program that had posted a 10-30 record over the two previous seasons.  Under his direction, the Cardinals went to the CIF playoffs three years in a row (2011-2013), posted a 46-22 record during that time and won a league championship in 2012.

In his first stint as coach,  he led the Cardinals to a Tri-Valley League championship in 2003.

Peeters is accepting applications for the varsity baseball coach position. Anyone interested in the job should contact him at Bishop Diego.
