GTen: Short-handed Royals get boost from Yang

Without five starters on Saturday, Sarah Yang helped picked up the slack for San Marcos in a non-league match against Thacher. Yang won a pair of important singles sets to spur the Royals to a 13-5 victory.

“Sarah was a real trooper playing singles and beating 2 very good Thacher players,” noted Royals head coach Fred Hartzman.

San Marcos’ doubles lineup claimed seven of nine points. Josephine Pulver and Maura Mannix teamed to sweep three sets.

“I was very happy how the girls stepped up and played in positions they normally did not play in,” Hartzman said.

San Marcos (7-1, 3-0) plays at Dos Pueblos on Tuesday.
