Central Coast Mavericks win Labor Day tourney title

The Central Coast Mavericks baseball club won the Labor Day Tournament in Camarillo.

The Central Coast Mavericks baseball club won the Labor Day Classic in Camarillo.

The Central Coast Mavericks club baseball team scored three runs in the seventh inning and defeated the So Cal Blaze, 7-4, to take the 11-under major division championship at the USSSA Labor Day Classic in Camarillo.

The Mavericks went 4-0-1 in the tournament, which included 19 teams from all over southern California.

A double by Joe Talarico and singles by Dylon Bailey, Josh Brennan, Erick Elizalde and Kellan Montgomery led to the three-run outburst that broke a 4-4 tie.

Bailey pitched four innings and didn’t allow an earned run.

The Mavericks got outstanding pitching and defense throughout the tournament. One of the highlights was the pitching performance from Jackson Greaney in a 1-0 win over the Santa Clarita Dirtbags in seven innings on Sunday night. He struck out 13 batters in the shutout victory.

The Central Coast Mavericks team members are Dylon Bailey, Josh Brennan, Jackson Cloud, Mikey Gills, Jackson Greaney, Erick Elizalde, Alex Fisk, Rylan McClaine, Kellan Montgomery, Ryan Speshyock, Shane Stewart and Joe Talarico. The team is coached by Cory Cloud and assisted by Dan Brennan and Lee Speshyock.
