SWM: Valente finishes 2nd in 100 fly; Royals set league record at State Meet

Alex Valente placed second in the 100 butterfly and seventh in the 100 backstroke at the inaugural CIF State Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday in Clovis.

Valente, the two-time Southern Section champion and Division 1 record holder in the 100 fly, finished behind Saratoga’s Xiangfei Xia. Valente’s time was 47.01 and Xia was clocked in 46.75. Valente won the CIF-SS Division 1 title in 46.00.

In the 100 back, Valente swam 49.84.

San Marcos qualified two individuals and two relay teams for the State Meet.
Olivia Smith swam 56.19 in the 100 fly and placed 12th. Paige Hauschild swam 51.41 in the 100 freestyle and placed 14th. She did 51.19 in the prelims.

The San Marcos 200 freestyle relay team of Piper Smith, Maija Ninness, Olivia Smith and Hauschild placed eighth in 1:36.46 and broke the Channel League record formally held by Buena in 1995.

In the 400 freestyle relay, Hauschild, Amanda Hayes, Ninness, and Olivia Smith swam a time of 3:29.42, tying the previous Chanel League record with Buena from 1995.
