PBB: Warriors defeat Saints in extras

Carpinteria won its third straight Tri-Valley League game on Friday with a 5-3 victory over Santa Clara in eight innings.

The Warriors came from behind, scoring the game-tying run in the seventh inning. Jose Carrillo singled home Javier Jasso with two outs to tie the game at 3-3. Then in the eighth, Malcolm Gordon reached on a leadoff single. He scored from first on a double by Ricky Medina, who then came around to score himself.

David Martinez was credited with the pitching victory for turning in three scoreless innings of relief. He came on for sophomore Sal Delgado, who held the Saints to two runs in five innings

Jasso finished 3 for 4 and scored two runs with two stolen bases.

“We won the ground ball contest today. The defense was steady, pitching minimized the scoring, and the offense applied pressure throughout by putting the ball in play,” said Warriors head coach Pat Cooney. “It is a big deal for the group to pick up a win on the road. It’s really tough to win on the road in extras so our whole team can be proud of their efforts.”

Carpinteria, which evened its TVL record at 4-4, is at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. vs. Dunn in the final non-league game of the regular season.
