SWM: Ninness has a big day for Royals at Mt. SAC Invite

The San Marcos girls swimming team finished as the runners-up at the Mt. SAC Invitational.

The San Marcos girls swimming team finished as the runners-up at the Mt. SAC Invitational.

Maija Ninness won the varsity backstroke in the school-record time and was part of a record-setting relay team, helping the San Marcos girls swim team finish second at the Mt. SAC Invitational on Saturday in Walnut.

Ninness, a freshman, was timed in 58.39. She combined with Olivia Smith, Brittany Prentice and Amanda Hayes to set a record in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:48.85.

Smith reached the finals of the 500 free and 100 butterfly and Hayes was a finalist i the 100 breast and 200 individual medley.

San Marcos’ JVs finished fourth, giving the Royals a second-place overall finish at the meet.

The Royals wrap up their dual meet season on Wednesday at Santa Barbara.
