GLF: Royals clinch league title with victory over Chargers

The San Marcos boys golf team clinched the Channel League title with a 372-410 victory over Dos Pueblos at Glen Annie on Tuesday afternoon.

“Winning the Channel League was important to the team because we know the quality of our league,” said Royals head coach Aaron Solis. “Winning league was one goal, now we can focus on our other goals.”

Bennett Reichard won the medalist of the match while posting his personal best round of two-under 69. Niels Andersen shot a 72 while Chad Visser had a low-score of 75.

“Bennett has worked hard on his game all year and I am very happy it is paying off for him right now,” added coach Solis. “His continued great play will be key for our team as we head into CIF competition.”

The Chargers were led by Joseph Pigatti, who carded a score of 80. Michael Nam posted a score of 81 while Mikha Benedictus shot a 82 for Dos Pueblos.

The Royals (7-0 league) close out their regular season on Thursday when they host Ventura at La Cumbre Country Club. After this, the Channel League Individual Championships will begin to take place at Soule Park in Ojai on Monday.
