A number of new pairings in doubles worked beautifully for Dos Pueblos on Tuesday in an 11-7 decision against visiting San Marcos in a match that secured second place in the league standings for the Chargers.

Dos Pueblos was able to capture seven of nine doubles sets on its way to clinching a playoff spot. Joshua Wang and Vincent Villano dominated three sets together, losing just three games total, while Miles Baldwin and Bryce Ambrose were also undefeated on the day.

“Inspiration, determination, and guts led the Chargers to the win,” said Chargers head coach Liz Frech.

As usual, San Marcos’ Kento Perera gave the Royals three sets by a substantial game advantage.

Dos Pueblos led 8-4 after the second round but Frech was wary of San Marcos’ game advantage thanks to Perera’s performance. The Chargers needed to win at least two sets in the final round and ended up with three.

“We knew the battle would be very tough,” Frech said. “I am very proud of our team who performed so well in this rebuilding year. It took every line to make this win happen.”

Mason Dochterman’s victory over San Marcos’ Lars Scannel was a key third-round win, giving Dochterman two wins for the day.

Dos Pueblos finishes Channel League play with a record of 6-2. San Marcos finishes in third place. Both teams will compete at the league individual tournament starting on Monday with the first rounds of singles.
