PBB: Five-run fifth taxes Chargers

For the second game in a row, the big inning was Dos Pueblos’ downfall. The Chargers gave up five runs in the bottom of the fifth on Thursday and lost 5-4 to Taft in an Easton Tournament game.

The Chargers (0-3) gave up seven runs in one inning yesterday and will seek to stem the flow in their next game on Saturday at home against Oaks Christian in another Easton Tournament game scheduled for 11 a.m.

Taft sprung three home runs in the fifth with Justin Thomas and Jayson Newman going back-to-back.

The Chargers led 1-0 at the time and rallied with three runs in the top of the sixth. DP’s cleanup hitter Luke Coffey went 2-for-3 with a runs scored and a pair of RBI. Dustin Demeter’s one hit was a double. The top of the order, Quinn Peacock, Gio Macias, Demeter and Coffey, went 5-for-12 and scored all four runs.
