The underclassmen ruled in Channel League girls basketball this season.

Santa Barbara High junior Amber Melgoza and Ventura sophomore Aubrey Knight were named co-Most Valuable Players, and four of the six players on the all-league first team are underclassmen.

Knight sparked Ventura to the league title. Melgoza led the league in scoring, helping the Dons to a second-place finish.

The Channel League first team consists of Santa Barbara junior Jada Howard, Dos Pueblos sophomore Camila Casanueva, Ventura sophomore Barbara Rangel, Buena sophomore Aaliyah Staples-West, Buena senior Amy Jameson and Ventura senior Riley Mew.

Local players selected to the second team include sophomore Kimberly Gebhardt and senior Jocelin Petatan of Santa Barbara, and Dos Pueblos senior Hallie Magee.

Honorable mention choices include Niranjaana Jeeva, Sr., and Andrea Fairfield, Sr. of Dos Pueblos; Skyler Stokes, Sr., and Roxy Sandoval, Sr., of San Marcos, and Cassandra Gordon, Fr., and Lil Ponce, Jr., of Santa Barbara.

Ventura’s Ann Larson was named coach of the year.
