BTen: Chargers’ firepower too much for Cate

It was a particularly windy day at the Chargers courts, but that didn’t seem to be a problem for the Dos Pueblos boys tennis team as they trumped Cate 13-5 in a non-league contest on Tuesday.

Patrick Corpuz led the way in the singles department for the Chargers, faltering only a single game en route to a three-set sweep. Joshua Wang paired with Bryce Ambrose at the No. 1 doubles berth to pick up a sweep of their own, allowing only two games to slip away in the process.

Miles Baldwin tacked on two set wins in singles before opening the door for alternate Garret Foreman. The doubles duo of Quinn Hensley and Vincent Villano went 2-1 on the day.

“Although they may have felt fatigue from yesterday’s three-hour match, the Chargers did not show it,” said coach Elizabeth Frech. “They played with great movement and could place their shots, in spite of the wind.”
Cate’s only singles win on the day came from Jason Xiao at the No. 1 spot, as he defeated Foreman. Christian Herman  and Michael Netteshiem provided a spark for the Rams as they won two out of their three doubles sets.
Dos Pueblos improves to 8-3 and travel to face Buena in a Channel League matchup on Wednesday April 8th while Cate falls to 1-2. The Rams will host Arroyo Grande on Friday.
