WRS: Cox wins CIF title; Uyesaka, Coronado to join at Masters

Dos Pueblos’ Cameron Cox won a CIF Southern Section title and two teammates qualified for the Masters Meet on Saturday at Grand Terrace High School.

Cox won three matches on Friday and started Saturday in the 132-pound semifinals. There he defeated Channel League rival Luke Tada of Ventura before pinning Canyon’s Ethan Ewing at 1:35 in the first period.

Jonathan Coronado, competing in the 160-pound division, also started Saturday in the semifinals but lost in overtime to eventual champion Ali Zain from Millikan. Coronado finished fourth.

Jeffy Uyesaka qualified for next week’s Masters Meet with a fifth-place result. The senior was knocked into the consolation rounds on Friday and came back on Saturday to win two key matches to earn a Masters berth.

The Masters Meet is next Friday and Saturday at Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario.

Dos Pueblos had 13 wrestlers competing at the Southern Section Championships and the team finished 10th overall.
