SB Elite spikers go 2-2 in a pair of tournaments

SB Elite Beach Volleyball Club finished 2-2 in its last two tournament events on Jan. 25 at Huntington Beach and Feb. 7 at Zuma Beach.

At Huntington Beach, SB Elite came two points away from upsetting the #1 team in the league LA ICG from the South Bay. The overall match came down to a tight three-set loss.

At Zuma, the teams of Josie Doughty/Audrey Baldwin, Kelsey Knudsen/Keara Rutz, and Maddy Nicolson/Laurel Kujan all won their matches in 2 sets.

“Over the last two events, the girls have really shown improvement in their overall beach games,” coach Dillan Bennett said. “I think it’s easy to look at match wins and losses, but with such a young squad out there competing against the best competition Southern California has to offer, we have to look at how we have improved our skills. So many more girls are hitting the ball, scrambling on defense, and learning how to win, which is something you don’t wake up one morning and start doing.”

SB Elite’s overall record comes to 4-4 overall. The club will end its season at the AAU Power League Pairs Championship at the Annenberg Beach House in Santa Monica on March 1.
