BTen: Tilton, SM doubles team push Royals past Camarillo

San Marcos won the final two sets of Thursday’s non-league match with Camarillo to secure a tight 10-8 victory.

With the match knotted at 8-8, Derek Tilton defeated Tim Le 6-4 in singles and the San Marcos doubles team of Daniel Coulson and Oliver Piltch claimed their final match to tilt the outcome in the Royals’ favor. The score was 6-6 going into the final round.

Coulson is 6-0 in the season’s first two matches playing with two different doubles partners.

“Dan and Oliver played off each other well today and showed great emotion,” said Royals head coach Jarrod Bradley. “With both hitting strong crosscourt groundstrokes, they capitalized by winning easy points at the net.”

Kento Perera spearheaded San Marcos’ singles side with three victories.

It was San Marcos’ first victory of the early season. The Royals (1-1) play their third match of the first week of the season on Friday at San Luis Obispo.
