GBK: Lilly sets Bishop scoring record; Cards fall at Santa Clara

Jordyn Lilly broke the all-time career scoring record for girls basketball at Bishop Diego, but the Cardinals came out on the short end of a 52-46 decision at Santa Clara in a Frontier League game Thursday night.

Lilly scored 18 points to give her 1,106 for her career. The previous record was 1,097 points, set by Greer Shull.

Sienna Gonzalez scored eight points for the Cardinals.

Bishop fell behind 18-7 in the first quarter but battled back and pulled to within one before halftime. The teams went back and forth in the second half. Santa Clara hit a big 3-pointer in the last two minutes to take a four-point lead and held off the Cardinals the rest of the way.

Bishop is now 15-6 overall and 3-3 in league play. The Cardinals return home on Saturday for a non-league game against Buckley. It will be their first home game in three weeks.
