WSoc: Warriors knocked out in NAIA round of 16

Westmont was defeated by Martin Methodist (Tenn.) 1-0 in a round-of-16 match at the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Tournament on Tuesday in Orange Beach, Ala.

The Redhawks capitalized on a Westmont turnover, with Katie Reid chipping over a charging goalkeeper Lauren Dorr for the game’s only goal in the 21st minute.

Westmont had beaten Martin Methodist in their last two meetings: a last-second, come-from-behind 2-1 win at the Lindsey Wilson Classic this past September and a 2-0 decision in last year’s NAIA Round of 16.

The Warriors (16-4) couldn’t get much going offensively against the Red Hawks. They were held to six shots, with none of them on goal.

Westmont’s played a solid match defensively, allowing only three shots, two on goal.
