Prime-time playoff performances by Cate’s Peyton Shelburne and Abel Gonzalez of Bishop Diego have earned them Athlete of the Week honors from the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table.

Shelburne played two strong matches for the Rams in the CIF Division 4A girls volleyball playoffs. She posted 13 kills in a second-round sweep against Azusa and pounded a team-high 19 kills in a 3-0 victory over Bishop Conaty-Loretto in the quarterfinals.

The top-seeded Rams host No 4 Summit of Fontana in the semifinals on Tuesday night.

Gonzalez sparked Bishop Diego to a 21-14 CIF football playoff victory over Antelope Valley in the Cardinals’ debut in the Northern Division (Division). Gonzalez ran for two touchdowns and was a force on defense. He had seven tackles include a fourth-and-goal stop against Antelope Valley’s top running back.

Bishop Diego plays at Atascadero in a quarterfinal game on Friday.

Honorable mention choices for the men are Blake Parrish (Dos Pueblos water polo) and Alan Williams (UCSB basketball). The female honorees include Adilene Aldapa (San Marcos cross country), Tiffany Dimaculangan (Westmont soccer) and Sandy Grimaldo (SBCC soccer).
