Plus over 200 runners, walkers and fans here for the inaugural “Run for Love” — a 5K run/walk for Domestic Violence Solutions (DVS).

It all starts with a call-to-action …

“We need to end domestic violence starting right here in our community,” states Hannah-Beth Jackson, California State Senator, 19th District, while addressing the pre-race crowd.

“And with your participation today, you make a very strong statement of support.”

Local fitness & motivational guru Jenny Schatzle next warms up the participants in her usual fun, “high-octane” style …

“It’s an incredible day,” beams Marsha Marcoe, DVS associate executive director.

Pepe Gonzalez, was overall 1st place finisher (17:09) — he made the trek from Paso Robles after his wife saw the DVS public service race announcement on television.

First female finisher was Maura Mitchell, DVS Board member, at 25:21.

“It’s been a total team effort,” states Julie Capritto, DVS Board President.

“And extra special thanks to John Lofthus at the UCSB Alumni Association and our Race Director, Wally Marantette who kept us on course …”
