WSoc: Cal Poly gets it done early in win over Gauchos

SAN LUIS OBISPO – UC Santa Barbara allowed a goal in the third minute of regulation and another 11 minutes later and that was all the scoring as the Gauchos dropped a 2-0 Blue-Green Rivalry decision at Cal Poly on Sunday afternoon.

Megan Abutin claimed a cross from Elise Krieghoff and put home a shot into the left side of the goal, past Gauchos goalkeeper Beth Ritter, to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. Less than 12 minutes later, Krieghoff scored her 14th goal of the campaign when she took a pass from Abutin and pushed a shot inside the right post.

UCSB and the Mustangs were scoreless over the final 76 minutes of the match.

The Gauchos finished with nine shots overall, five of which were on goal. Ashley Dean had a pair of the shots that were on frame.

Santa Barbara will complete its conference season on Thursday, Oct. 30 when it hosts Cal State Fullerton in a 7:00 pm match at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium. The game will be “Senior Night” and five Gaucho seniors will be saluted prior to kickoff.
